Mabalingwe Nov 2003

Towards the end of 2003 we made two trips. The first was to Mabalingwe in October followed by an outing to Witbank dam for my sons birthday on the 6th December.

Mabalingwe: -

Mabalingwe is a fantastic resort. It is situated near Warmbaths where the temperatures in winter are lovely. A vast difference from the Johannesburg weather.

The Caravan park is set in a lovely "Well" treed area. There is no shortage of shade. All the sites are lawned, however, the last time we were there, they were starting to lay paving where the caravans are normally placed. I think that this has become such a popular place that every weekend the park is fairly full and thus the grass under the caravans and tents is not recuperating like it should.  The ablutions are brilliant. Very nice decor, well kept and very clean. Also, I have never had to wait for a shower or toilet!

The bushveld is what makes Mabalingwe what it is. It is real typical African bush. In the game reserve, there is plenty of animals. They even have Elephant. Towards the back of the park is a dam with a number of hippo's. During the night you will also hear the calls of Jackals and more particularly, Hyenas! Yes, Hyenas. The sound these guys make is lovely.

At the Caravan park is a pool which is heated in Winter, trampolines and table tennis. At the main camp about 5 minutes away by car, there is tennis, squash, more pools, and a well stocked shop.

We have been to Mabalingwe about 4 times now and normally go in winter. We thoroughly love it and would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone. Go and try it, You will love it

This is the site we have had on two occasions. As you can see, very spacious.
Here is a picture of a Mabalingwe sunrise. You can see the type of bushveld in the area.
Here are shots of the swimming pool. As mentioned, in winter they are heated and lovely to sit in during the day. In summer, they are just as good at cooling you down.
Also situated in the park is the Kalahari oasis from the Castrol GTX advertisement fame. There is actually a bar inside which is open most of the time. I am not sure of the exact hours.

Until next time, keep well and happy holidays.
